Zagori on your own pace

Zagori is one of the last unspoiled corners of Greece. 45 villages, nestled on the Northwest of the country, hide their beauty for many centuries now. Ancient trails, stone-made bridges, traditional guesthouses invite you to explore the area on your own steps!

Day 1: Arrival at Ioannina – transportation to Kipi village

Arrival at any time of the day at the city of Ioannina and direct transportation to Kipi village for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Vradeto – Beloi – Vradeto rocksteps – Koukouli – Kipi

Morning transportation to Vradeto village. From there we start our hike and we head to Beloi viewpoint. We admire the splendid views of Vikos Gorge and we continue to the famous rock steps of Vradeto. The rock steps of Vradeto are made of stone, carved by exceptional and highly-experienced craftsmen who created 1.120 large steps, covering 250 meters of height. On the exit of the path, we follow the tarmac rad for a while and soon after we enter to a different path through the forest with oak and beech trees until we reach the traditional Koukouli. We descent the path which leads to Kontodimou bridge and back to Kipi for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Kipi – Monodendri

We start our hike from Kipi. Following the tarmac road for a while, we meet the famous 3-arched bridge. We continue through the river bend until we meet Missiou Bridge. Our steps lead us to the uphill path for Vitsa. After a short break at the traditional village, we continue to Monodendri for overnight stay.

Day 4: Monodendri – Vikos Gorge – Vikos – Aristi

Early in the morning we descend the into the Vikos ravine. The path follows the river through the shades and the crystal-clear waters. After about 4 hours we reach the Voidomatis river springs. From there we continue uphill to Vikos village. At the exit of the path our transportation waits for a short ride to Aristi village.

Day 5: Aristi – Mikro Papingo

Morning transfer bac to Vikos village. We enter again at the Gorge and as soon as we reach the river bend, we follow the old up-hill path to Papingo. On our way we admire the incredible views of the surrounding “Towers of Papigo”. In about 2 hours we reach Mikro Papingo for overnight stay. In the afternoon, optional walk to the natural swimming pools between Mikro and Megalo Papingo.

Day 6: Mikro Papingo – Dragon Lake – Astraka refuge

Dragon Lake nestled on an altitude of 2050m. on Timfi range, stands out, not only for the unique beauty of the landscape, but also for the extremely rare Alpine Triton (amphibious kind of lizard), found in its dark waters. From Papingo we follow the trail and on above the tree line to open grassland, we continue to the Astraka refuge. After a short break for lunch at the refuge we retrace our steps to the old path and up to the scenic Dragon Lake , perched on the edge of the northern escarpment of Mt Gamila, which at 2497m is one of the great peaks of the Pindos. We return from the same path to the refuge for overnight stay.

Day 7: Mikro Papingo – Ioannina

In the morning, we leave behind us the mountains and the refuge and we return to Mikro Papingo. After a short drive, we end up to the city of Ioannina. The rest of the day is at our disposal to discover the secrets of the city of the legends and the silver crafts. Overnight stay in hotel in Ioannina.

Day 8: Departure day
